The Most Horrible Thing Ever, a mountain bike race in North Carolina’s Pisgah National Forest, was recently recognized as one of the toughest mountain bike races in the world by the national publication Bike magazine.
TMHTE is a 36-hour stage race over some of the most brutal singletrack Pisgah has to offer. During the inaugural event in February, 25 people started the race and only two finished. It’s accompanied on the Ten Toughest Races in the World by such legendary events like La Ruta De Los Conquistadores in Costa Rica and the Tour Divide, which forces riders to pedal from Banff to New Mexico.
