Three Wilderness bills passed the House of Representatives on June 9th, bringing 320,000 acres of forest closer to permanent protection. Two of the Wilderness bills will protect over 300,000 acres of sensitive ecosystems in California, while the third bill will designate 15,000 acres in New Mexico as Wilderness.
During the same week, another Wilderness bill was introduced that will designate almost 40,000 acres as Wilderness in Oregon. This year, the House has passed five Wilderness bills, including one that protects large pieces of the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia.
