Elliott Blaufuss has maintained a steady presence as a sideman and collaborator, working with the likes of Eric Hutchinson and Phillip Phillips. But now the Nashville-based artist is getting set to break out on his own with the upcoming debut album “The Sea Between Us.”
A standout lead single, “Dive Motel,” drops today. The breezy strummer is an anthem for road weary travelers—particularly hard-working musical lifers—who have plenty of experience checking into less-than-ideal accommodations after a long day on the highway.
But for Blaufuss, who’s been playing in bands since he was 17, there’s a romance to crashing in rundown rooms on the side of the interstate. “No matter where I go, it feels like coming home in this flea-infested, flower bedspread dive motel,” he sings in the new tune’s cheery chorus.
“I wanted to pay my respects to the places that house the American travelers and minstrels such as myself,” Blaufuss said in a statement.
Tapping into his years of experience as a multi-instrumentalist in supportive roles, Blaufuss played 13 different instruments on his new effort and also recruited back-up from roots music mainstays Cody Angel (pedal steel) and Matt Menefee (banjo). “The Sea Between Us” will be released on March 10.
