Heritage Farm brings the adventure to Huntington, WV
Just a short drive outside Huntington, discover Heritage Farm, the only Smithsonian-affiliated attraction in West Virginia. In addition to incredible museums, animals, artisans, and festivals, Heritage Farm is home to a wealth of outdoor adventure opportunities for all ages.
TalithaKoum aerial course is located on the top of the mountain and features 30 different elements on 3 levels ranging from 15-40 feet in the air. The name “TalithaKoum” means “rise up” in Aramaic and guests on the course can be reminded of the early Appalachian settlers who were faced with obstacles in the untamed landscape.
Guests on the aerial course are challenged to overcome obstacles including swinging beams, cargo nets, rope and cable bridges, and teetering platforms. Participants who enjoy a thrill will love the Mountain Top Drop on the course that’s a 40-foot belayed free fall.
Wilder’s Zip-n-Climb is a great course for families to build confidence and overcome challenges together. The aerial course has 17 elements with a cargo net and rope cable bridges, over 2 levels. The lower level is 5 feet high and the higher level is 15 feet high. One of the highlights for families on the course is the zip-line that is equipped for adults or kids.
You can travel at the speed of 40 mph on the Red Tail Racers dual racing 1100-foot-long zip lines. Zip-line participants can enjoy incredible birds-eye views of Heritage Farm from the air.
If you enjoy mountain biking you’ll definitely want to check out the downhill trails through the Appalachian forest at Mountain Rim Bike Park. There are 10 trails to choose from that vary in difficulty, scenery, and challenges as you make your way back down the mountain.
The trails at Mountain Rim Bike Park are named after and marked by farm equipment through the years with names including Stump Grinder, Hay Baler, and the Humdinger. The trail names were an intentional way that Heritage Farm chose to honor the hard-working people of Appalachia.
