UVA Hosts Discussion on Outdoor Inclusion
In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the University of Virginia, Prolyfyck Run Creww, and Black Girls Hike RVA are set to co-host Everybody Outside: Finding Joy and Belonging in the Outdoors in Charlottesville, Va., on January 25. The event features keynote speaker Alison Marielle Désir, the author of “Running While Black” and the TV host and producer of, “Out & Back with Alison Mariella Désir,” an award-winning PBS show.
“I’m excited to share my own journey of finding joy in the outdoors as well as my work in the field of environmental justice – that is, increasing equitable outdoor access for all,” Alison Mariella Désir said in a statement. “Additionally, I’m really looking forward to connecting with local community organizers about the impactful work they are doing in Charlottesville.”
The co-founders of both Prolyfyck Run Creww and Black Girls Hike RVA will follow Désir’s talk with a panel discussion. The event will take place at UVA’s Irving Theater and feature a community hike beforehand at Riverview Park. For more information, visit https://everybody-outdside.eventbrite.com.
