The Skinny on Quiet Life
They had me from the first song.
This is a direct quote from a very good friend of mine, someone whose opinion on music is much valued by me, when we chatted about Quiet Life, a band he discovered when they opened for The Head & The Heart recently at The Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina.
His sentiment was echoed by a number of my friends in attendance at the show. I have yet to encounter anyone that was not blown away by this roots rock quintet. It seems the folks in The Head & The Heart – arguably the hottest band on the folk rock scene – dig Quiet Life, too; they personally chose the Portland, Oregon, band to open a bevy of dates across the country this fall.
I got my hands on Quiet Life’s new record, Wild Pack, recently and – after just a couple listens – it quickly jumped to the top of my list of favorite releases from 2013. Track it down. Give it a spin. If the buzz about Quiet Life continues, the band’s name will be at the top of the marquee the next chance you have to see them.

Right now, the band’s touring plans are in the works. Since they hail from Portland, Oregon, trips to the Southeast are a tad difficult. Want them to hit your area in the near future? Drop a line to a friendly local venue that hosts up and coming roots rock bands. Barrage your favorite indie radio station with requests for Quiet Life tunes. Tell your friends about Wild Pack and play it for anyone who will listen. Trust me – these guys are going to take off quick and you will want to see them when you can.

“The song is a reflection on the town I was born in, New London, Connecticut. It’s a small old whaling town on the Long Island Sound. The town itself has been through some rough times – lots of crime and a downtown full of empty storefronts and shady characters. I saw a murder on the street before Christmas one year. A dude got shot in the head outside of a bar called Ernie’s. After that, I split for California. I had to get out. To me, “New London” is a matter-of-fact story about a place that taught me a few things, one of which is that there is no shame in abandoning your roots and getting out and seeing the world . . . as long as you don’t forget where you came from.”
