A few weeks ago we welcomed Travis Hall to the BRO family as the new digital content strategist. Travis has written for the magazine in the past, but we’re happy to have him on a full-time basis. As we always try to do with new staffers, we threw a few questions his way with the BRO reader in mind.
BRO: Where are you from originally?
TH: I’m originally from southern Indiana. It’s the land of basketball, but it’s completely devoid of mountains, fly fishing, and good hiking trails, so I had to leave.
BRO: What is your first memory of being outside?
TH: Bobber fishing with my dad and my uncle. I think there was a catfish involved, and I think he was given a name.
BRO: What is the worst mistake you ever made in the woods?
TH: Not going to the woods enough.
BRO: If Sasquatch and a hungry black bear got into a fight, who would win?
TH: It would be a hell of a bout, and one that I would pay money to see, but in the end the black bear would take the cake.
BRO: What’s your go-to backpacking grub?
TH: Knor Pasta Sides and vacum sealed protein. Cheap, simple, and easy.
BRO: Three things you can’t live without?
TH: Mountains, craft beer, and bluegrass music.
BRO: If you could take any famous person (dead or alive) fly-fishing for a day, who would it be and why?
TH: John Gierach and Paul from a River Runs Through It. Oh, and maybe Norman McLean or Sir Izaak Walton.

BRO: What songs/artists would we find on your Spotify playlist?
TH: Infamous Stringdusters, Greensky Bluegrass, Zac Brown, and The Avett Brothers just to name a few. I’ve also developed a recent fondness for Sam Bush.
BRO: Do you have any guilty pleasures?
TH: Craft beer, but I don’t feel guilty about it.
BRO: What is your favorite regional brew?
TH: Holy City‘s Pecan Dream. It takes me back to the Low Country of Charleston, South Carolina, where I spent two years learning to drink beer on the beach.
BRO: If you didn’t have to work for us as our Digital Content Specialist, how would you spend your days?
TH: Maybe I’d be bumming around in Bozeman, Montana or living out of a van down by the Firehole River. Who knows.
BRO: Best outdoor book you have read?
TH: This is loaded question, but I’m going with Norman McLean’s A River Runs Through It. It introduced me to the art of fly fishing while I was growing up in a region where bass boats and bait casters were the norm.
BRO: Who would win a corn hole match between Chuck Norris and Clint Eastwood?
TH: Dirty Harry would dominate.
