Fridays on the Fly: Check out the Fish and Pick Festival in Buena Vista, VA this Weekend


This weekend Beuna Vista, VA will be packed with family activities, fishing clinics, and contests.

The Maury River will be stocked with more than 1,000 rainbow and brown trout to ensure a great catch for the participants. Fishing clinics and contests begin at 10 a.m.

If you catch a tagged fish you win a prize. Sponsors will conduct both fly fishing and spin casting clinics, with band members, for all ages and abilities. There will be demos for canoeing, biking, campfire cooking, archery, turkey calling and more throughout the day on Saturday. A paintball obstacle course, provided by Stonewall Paint Ball, will be available for all ages to enjoy.

Glen Maury Park offers 60 sites with water and power for campers and RVs at $30 per night. There are hundreds of dry camp sites for tents and self-contained campers at $15 per night.  Camper check-in begins at noon on Friday, May 20.

All campsite registrations and event tickets can be made online.

Event tickets are purchased separately from campsites. The $25 All The Fun Pass includes all events, clinics, demos, contests and concerts. Kids (under the age of 16) are free.

You don’t have to camp to be a part of the Fish & Pick weekend. Attendees may also purchase tickets for select programs and concerts individually online or at the event.

If you just want fishing, the ticket is $10 per person. There is no charge for the fish that are caught and kept and kids under 16 are free. If you just want to come to the concerts, the full two-night ticket is $20 or you can purchase a $5 ticket for Friday night, or a $15 ticket for the Junior Sisk and Ramblers Choice Saturday night show.

Fish & Pick is organized by the City of Buena Vista, Lexington & Rockbridge Area Tourism, Virginia Tourism, Natural Bridge Park & Hotel, Devils Backbone, Shenandoah Rides and Rentals, Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine with a grant from Virginia Tourism. Mariner Media, Valley Autos, and Bob’s Fishing Outfitters are also local sponsors.
