One Good Idea

Defy Thirst
In 2008, two Atlanta residents founded Defy Thirst, a nonprofit working to address the lack of clean water in impoverished countries through water filtration technology. But instead of only addressing the specific issue of water quality, Defy Thirst has developed a more holistic approach to outreach that embeds specialists and teams within a given community for years to address a variety of needs within the village. For instance, in Manta, Ecuador, Defy Thirst has installed a solar water purification system, supplied clean water and sanitation, and is currently working to provide school children with educators, uniforms, and school supplies. The group gives athletes free gear for performing community service in their villages as well.
