Known locally as both the mountain biking and apple capital of Georgia, Ellijay is situated in the charming hills of north Georgia’s scenic Gilmer County. Its surroundings are home to eleven mountain hiking trails, fifty-nine mountain bike trails, several impressive waterfalls, and some of the best trout waters in the Southeast.
Ellijay’s public lands are bountiful. Nearby parks and land management areas include Fort Mountain State Parks as well as the Cohutta and Rich Mountain Wilderness Areas. Gilmer County is also home to the Coosawattee River, the basis for James Dickey’s epic novel and the 1972 classic film Deliverance. The nearby Cartecay River is one of the most scenic class III rivers in the South. Also near Ellijay, Amicalola Falls is one of the most spectacular falls in Georgia, and the park is the access point for the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.
DID YOU KNOW? There is a secret rock hole behind Blueberry Falls on the Cartecay River where you can swim through the falls.
