Red Light, Green Light

Washington D.C. has introduced bicycle-only traffic signals at a handful of intersections within the District along a very popular route for bike commuters. In addition to the signals, the District has also created bike boxes at the intersections where cyclists can wait in front of cars for the lights to change. Department of Transportation officials hope the experimental project will lead to a safer commute for bikers in D.C. by making them more visible to drivers.
