The Kids are on Bikes

High school mountain bike racing takes off in Virginia.

“He fits this in with football, basketball, track, and wrestling, because he loves it,” says Campbell’s father Ken Rutherford.

With a successful first series, Hufnagel expects even more schools to field teams as the new school year starts, especially with many kids recruiting their friends.

“This is my main sport,” says Cameron Ritcher. “Getting other kids excited about biking is important to me.”

More Youth MTB

In addition to the Virginia High School Mountain Bike Series, there is a Carolina Youth Mountain Bike League that will host two races for kids this fall: September 18 at the Christ School in Arden and October 23 at Falling Creek in Tuxedo.
