NATURE CAMP:
Founded by the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs (VFGC) in 1942, Nature Camp offers an experience that is both rich in substance and firmly rooted in history. While costly infrastructure renovations caused the VFGC to close the premises in 2006, a faithful body of former campers, counselors and garden club members managed to dig deep to grow the funding needed to rededicate Nature Camp just one year later. With rejuvenated spirits, Nature Camp remains radically committed to instilling within the heart of every camper an appreciation for and love of nature. The summer of 2008 will be Nature Camp’s second year in operation as a training grounds for the future stewards of our earth’s natural resources.
More than mere playtime, Nature Camp teaches youth the skills they need to conserve and protect the environment. A qualified and enthusiastic summer staff, aided by bunkhouse counselors, accomplish this task for its visitors via hands-on, outdoor, experiential learning tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA. The Educational Program offers campers the unique opportunity to experience a diverse curriculum in a variety of settings, often spending much of their time in the field where they can interact with nature directly.
