BREAKING: Rescuers Search for Missing Hiker Near Roanoke

Rescue teams are searching for a missing hiker from Roanoke, Va.. Paul Youmans, age 34, was last seen early on the morning of Monday, December 3, 2018 at his home in Roanoke. His vehicle was later found in the parking lot at the trailhead of Dragon’s Tooth near Catawba, Va. The 4.1-mile trail to Dragon’s Tooth, a jagged rock monolith and popular overlook, is fairly rugged, with several creek crossings and a rock scramble about three-fourths of a mile from the top.  At the summit, some hikers attempt the tricky climb of the Dragon’s Tooth itself.

Paul’s scent was picked up on a trail, but it is unknown how far he traveled. Rescue crews will continue to search during daylight hours. Paul is an experienced hiker, but it is unknown how much gear he took with him. Paul is described as 5’9”, 140 lbs, with curly brown hair, brown facial hair and blue eyes.

Anyone who was hiking in the area on December 3rd or 4th and may have seen Paul, is asked to call Roanoke County Emergency Communications Center at 540-562‐3265.
