Fresh Tracks: Bon Iver Goes Back to the Woods

Bon Iver’s last album, “i,i” came out back in 2019. And although the wait for a full-length follow-up continues, word came last week that a tide-over EP is on the way next month.

The three-song effort, “SABLE,” comes out on October 18, and, as a preview, the Justin Vernon-led project has unveiled a first single, “S P E Y S I D E.”

The sparse, acoustic tune finds Vernon ruminating on regret and offering some straightforward apologies through his signature falsetto and gentle guitar strumming. It’s reminiscent of the songs on Bon Iver’s 2007 landmark album “For Emma, Forever Ago,” which Vernon wrote in a cabin in the Wisconsin woods following a tough breakup.

Bon Iver has not toured in 2024, but Vernon did surface on stage back in August to perform at a campaign rally for Kamala Harris in his hometown of Eau Claire.
