Packed and Ready to Row

She’s been preparing for this journey for over two years. This Friday 22-year-old Katie Spotz will set off on a solo rowing expedition across the Atlantic Ocean. If successful, she will be the youngest person ever to row an ocean solo. Spotz will embark on a 2,500-mile route from West Africa to South America. She plans to spend between 70-100 days on the water. The journey will be used to benefit the Blue Planet Run Foundation, which funds clean water projects around the world.

I interviewed Spotz when she was first planning the journey in May 2008. I also caught up with her six months later when she became the first person to swim the entire 352-mile  Allegheny River.

You can follow her Atlantic journey here.
