Shooting on the Parkway

A manhunt is underway in central Virginia after a gunman shot and wounded two people along the Blue Ridge Parkway last night. National Park Service spokeswoman Karen Beck-Herzog says a man and a woman were shot around 7:30 p.m. Monday near the Rock Point Overlook in Augusta County, at the parkway’s northern end. The man is in critical condition at the University of Virginia Medical Center and the woman is listed in fair condition.  The Parkway has been closed from mile markers 4 to 13.

Less than six weeks ago, guns were legalized on the Blue Ridge Parkway and in all other units of the National Park System. Allowing guns in national parks has sparked heated debates among Blue Ridge Outdoors readers. Read recent stories about the new national park rule here, here, and  here.
