Solar power on the rise

Solar energy grew by 25 percent in 2016, making it one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. The 25 percent growth spurt  supported 260,000 jobs in 44 states.

The solar industry employs more employees than both the coal and fossil fuel industries combined.

There are two primary ways of capturing the sun’s power: solar panels convert sunlight into an electric current; and concentrated solar power (CSP) uses lenses and mirrors that track the sun to concentrate light into a very small beam, creating heat that produces electricity.

Supporters of renewable energy hope the solar industry’s sustained growth will help influence President Trump and other climate change skeptics to see the business potential in solar energy and otherrenewables.
