If you’ve been planning a trip to one of country’s national parks in the Blue Ridge or beyond, you can save some cash on the entrance fee on select days next year. The National Park Service just announced six free entrance days in 2025, with the first being on January 20, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
On the designated days, the NPS promotion—created to attract new visitors—will save the $30 fee for a private vehicle to get through the gates at Shenandoah National Park or the $20 required for a visit to the Assateague National Seashore. A list of parks that charge an entrance fee can be found here.
And here are the 2025 free entrance days:
- January 20 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- April 19 – First Day of National Park Week
- June 19 – Juneteenth National Independence Day
- August 4 – Great American Outdoors Act Signing Day
- September 27 – National Public Lands Day
- November 11 – Veterans Day
