The Cochran Shoals/Sope Creek unit of Atlanta’s Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is scheduled to get a trail overhaul in 2010. Ten miles of new trail will be built, while some older trails will be decommissioned because of erosion issues. The rehab is part of a master plan to develop a more cohesive trail network throughout the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s 16 units in Atlanta. Other trail projects have been proposed at separate units of the recreation area, but Cochran Shoals/Sope Creek is one of the most heavily used trail systems in metro Atlanta, with an estimated 1.5 million visitors annually.
