Train Spotting

Train SpottingSome of us might take mass transit to work, but to the trailhead? It’s definitely not an easy thing to do. But Harper’s Ferry, W.Va., happens to be on Amtrak’s daily Capitol Limited route, which drops you off just steps away from major trail systems. Hop on Amtrak in D.C. for the hour ride to Harper’s Ferry ($17 fare) and you’ve got two great options: Hike the A.T. south through the Shenandoah Valley, or bike the C&O Canal 60 miles back to your home in D.C.
