Tough Times for Tomatoes

It’s time to lay off the tomatoes. According to the FDA, an outbreak of salmonella in raw tomatoes has spread to 16 states, including Virginia. According to a story in the San Francisco Chronicle 145 people have been infected and 23 have been hospitalized from the bacteria, which has been linked to larger tomatoes, including Roma.

Virginia is the lone state on the East Coast that has reported an outbreak. Others on the list include California, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin.
