Hawksnest Ski Resort announced recently that it will not be offering skiing for the 08/09 season, or any ski season in the future. Instead, the resort will be focusing entirely on tubing.
The owners of Hawksnest have been trying to expand their ski operations for years, but have been met with hostility from the town council who refused to permit the expansion plans. Instead of fighting the town council further, the owners have decided to reduce the overhead by offering only tubing–a family friendly snow activity that has grown in popularity in recent years.
With the announcement, Hawksnest joins a long list of Southeastern ski resorts that have gone the way of the Do-Do bird.
