Ryan Bowen, a 22-year-old recent college graduate, decided he was going to beat the D.C. traffic and ride his bike to Barack Obama’s inauguration. Not a bad idea considering over a million people are expected to show up and clog the nation’s capital. But Bowen had to leave a little earlier than anyone else, because he lives in Los Angeles. The young cyclist just completed a 50-day cross-country trip that found him pedaling up to 150 miles a day to make the big event. Bowen told the Wilmington Star News that he conditioned on the trip and was previously never more than an average bike commuter, but he was inspired by Obama to do something bold. There’s still one hitch though: he needs an inauguration ticket.
