MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CUP TO RETURN TO WEST VIRGINIA

UCI ANNOUNCES SNOWSHOE WILL HOST MTB WORLD CUP FINALS IN 2021

“It was wild,” said mountain biker Vali Holl, remembering the challenging course from the UCI 2019 MTB World Cup at Snowshoe Mountain.

“For the last battle we have one of the hardest courses of the year,” echoed another rider, Loic Bruni. “What a track!”

Recently it was announced that riders will once again compete for mountain biking’s ultimate title on the same gnarly Snowshoe singletrack, as the MTB World Cup will return to the West Virginia resort on September 18-19.

“Our  team here on the mountain really embraced the challenge of facilitating such a massive event,” said Snowshoe president Patti Duncan, recalling the 2019 World Cup. “Our goal was to make a lasting impression on race fans and officials alike, and to resurrect World Cup racing in the United States, and now we can confidently say we did just that. Now we’re excited to do it all over again”

In 2019 it was the first time the UCI MTB World Cup was held in the United States in nearly half a decade. It drew a crowd of nearly 15,000 fans to Snowshoe Mountain, and the event was celebrated widely as one of the most memorable World Cup races of all time.

“As far as the world of mountain biking goes, it’s like hosting the Super Bowl,” said Shawn Cassell, public relations manager at Snowshoe.

Viewers can watch the World Cup broadcasted live all over the world via Red Bull TV, which will be putting a bright spotlight on the region’s fast-growing mountain biking scene.

According to RedBull’s website, the scheduling for all 2021 World Cup events is subject to change, depending on coronavirus case counts in the regions scheduled to host.
