Reaching Higher

Rebekah Trittipoe, Jenny Anderson, and Anne Lundblad will attempt to complete the South Beyond 6,000, a challenge defined by Carolina Mountain Club that requires summiting 40 peaks in the Southern Appalachians above 6000 feet elevation. These three women will attempt to connect these peaks together in one unbroken pathway, requiring they cover more than 40 miles of trail per day. Since 15 of the peaks do not have any trails, they will be bushwhacking and navigating to these summits.

All three women are accomplished ultra-runners. Trittipoe of Bedford, Va., is a former champion of the Mountain Masochist 50 Miler, JFK 50 Miler, Uwharrie 40 Miler, Rattlesnake 50K, Holiday Lake 50K, and current women’s record-holder on the Allegheny Trail in West Virginia. Anne Lundblad of Swannanoa, N.C., holds several notable course records (Mt. Mitchell Challenge, JFK, Promise Land 50k, Bel Monte 50k, Dupont Trail Marathon, Virginia Creeper Marathon), has been named USATF ultrarunner of the year, and has placed 2nd in the World Cup 100K.

In addition to the challenge of completing the SB6K, these women will be raising funds for Project Athena, a charity for women athletes who are battling physical illness or injury.
