This weekend marks the official kick off to summer season, barbeque season, and bathing suit season. Most people will be excited about at least two of those. Memorial Day Monday may be about remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation, but the Saturday and Sunday before are all about celebrating life, liberty, and the pursuit of that which makes us happy. Maybe it what makes you happy is any excuse to rock a tank-top in public, a day-time buzz, or filling up the kiddy pool in the yard and soaking all day (anyone?). If you read Blue Ridge Outdoors and are an avid outdoor recreation enthusiast, however, you are more than likely planning on celebrating the outdoors.
Well, you’re in luck because Blue Ridge Outdoors helps to sponsor one of the best outdoor sports festivals in the Southeast, and it just happens to take place this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Asheville, N.C. The Mountain Sports Festival is three days of music, sports, beer, and celebrating community and athletics at Asheville’s Carrier Park. Local bands play all day, and there are races, events, and activities for the every age and ability. There will be a triathlon that includes paddling on the French Broad, road and trail running races, cyclocross race, disc golf, ultimate Frisbee and even a dodgeball tournament this year. There will also be tandem bike and fly fishing demos and clinics, and a roller derby. For the kids, there will be a duathalon, Kids Village with climbing, bike riding, cornhole and Frisbee golf, plus a 5k and bike race. Don’t forget to swing by the BRO Roadshow booth to enter our daily raffle and check out some sweet gear from our sponsors. Oskar Blues and Highland Brewing Company will be supplying the brew.
Get out to Asheville this weekend and celebrate the outdoor sports lifestyle. There will be plenty of time on Monday for kiddy pool soaking and barbequing.
