The winter called skiers and snowboarders home for year 50 of snow sports to the mountain for season 2022-2023! Massanutten Mountain welcomed its challenging winter season with an onslaught of snowmaking power through the addition of 50 HKD low-energy snow guns, retrofitting six automated fan snowmakers, 52 HKD KLIK snow guns, 22 TechnoAlpin, and eight SMI fan guns! Committed to keeping its emissions low, Massanutten Resort leads the way in Virginia’s Ski Resorts in partnership with the National Ski Areas Association. This year, Massanutten Snow Sports was excited to open three new trails, two new “Blue Square” trails, “Mueller’s Mile” and “Ridgecrest” and a “Black Diamond” trail – “Slot”. The new terrain and snowmaking improvements will be transformational to the skiing and riding experience at Massanutten. Next summer will see the installation of a new detachable high-speed lift to replace the Peak Quad lift, the addition of another new “Double Black Diamond” trail, and a revitalized Bike Park.
Winter’s not over yet until the first festival of the season arrives. Join Massanutten for it’s annual Snow Moon Fest – Friday, March 3rd – Sunday, March 5th -, with a 4K on the Fairway with proceeds going to Elkton Area United Services. This year’s Snow Moon Fest will feature an all new donut eating contest to benefit Therapeutic Adventures and dog dress-up contest, along with old favorites such as tap takeovers, Live at the Lodge Party, Northern Lights Tubing, brunch at Campfire Grill, USASA Snowboard/Ski Cross Race, a sidewalk sale, kids activities, beer, and wine samples, and a torchlight slope parade & fireworks.
