Harrisonburg: Adventure Basecamp

Harrisonburg, a basecamp for outdoor adventure enthusiasts, radiates a friendly and calming atmosphere created by local businesses, with the breweries only adding to the charm. With five distinct breweries located downtown, Harrisonburg’s brewery scene offers a unique and relaxing atmosphere to unwind after a day conquering local trails, exploring nearby national forests, or cycling down mountain paths. Using locally sourced ingredients and inspiration from the community, you’ll find a wide range of award-winning flagships to small batch seasonal creations with flavors to satisfy every palate. From live music to weekend festivals, each brewery hosts events that bring together locals, visitors, and everyone in between. Harrisonburg’s local breweries make up 5 of 17 breweries on the Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail. Pick up a passport at any of their taprooms and start collecting your stamps!

Brothers Craft Brewing

Located inside a renovated Coca-Cola bottling plant, Brothers Craft Brewing is family-owned business that is committed to tapping into local products and services to create a truly unique, quality craft beer. They offer 14 unique taps with a list of 5 flagship beers and a craft cocktail series. Flagship list highlights include: The Great Outdoors, a Virginia pale ale that captures the essence of the Shenandoah wilderness, and Skyline Falls, an IPA that was created to match the satisfaction after a long hike through cloudy and misty cascades. Brothers is very involved with the outdoor recreation community and often partners with local organizations like the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition to sponsor bike races or meet ups. Just looking to relax? Spend time on their patio or attend one of their highly anticipated festivals. This is a dog friendly brewery.

The Friendly Fermenter

A locally owned brewery that proudly states they brew “beer like momma used to make, well… if your mom made beer that is…” The Friendly Fermenter is Harrisonburg’s only Nanobrewery. They offer new homebrew inspired beers weekly, only available in their taproom. Visit their basement brewery to sample their unique brews, listen to local artists, and fuel up with their menu that includes Big A$$ German Soft Pretzel, Trail Basket, and angus burgers. The Friendly Fermenter is a dog friendly business and welcomes you to include your four-legged friend in the fun.

Pale Fire Brewing Company

Now established in Harrisonburg’s renovated icehouse, Pale Fire was once just an idea created between friends scribbled on a bar napkin. Over the years the big idea transformed into a downtown staple offering award-winning beers and craft cocktails. Their menu serves up delicious eats such as Detroit-style pizzas, hot sandwiches, salads and other small bites. Pale Fire’s warm atmosphere invites you to grab a pint and relax on their spacious patio, get cozy on the couch while reading a book from their free library, or warm up by the fireplace with friends. Join them for live music most Fridays or one of their yearly events and bring your best companion as they are a dog friendly brewery.

Restless Moons Brewing

Looking to savor truly fresh, local beer? Restless Moons’ craft brews are made just a few feet away from the bar in their taproom. Their beers are only brewed in small batches. This allows them to maintain a diverse tap list and constantly rotate the beers they offer. Everyone who walks through their doors should be able to find something to enjoy! Restless Moons is a great place to relax with friends, enjoy live music, or explore your competitive side on their game nights. Before your visit, make note that they do not offer food, but customers are welcome to bring their own.

Three Notch’d Brewing Company

Founded in Charlottesville, Virginia, Three Notch’d Brewing Company has expanded to six different locations across Virginia including their Valley Collab House located in downtown Harrisonburg. Their tap list features classic Three Notch’d beers with a brand-new, weekly addition brewed locally by the Harrisonburg team. The Valley Collab House offers a fun, welcoming atmosphere that invites visitors to unwind downtown. Their game nights, happy hours, and other events foster a sense of community between locals, visitors, and those alike. The Valley Collab House is dog friendly.
