Nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, West Virginia is a land of untamed beauty, rolling hills, and breathtaking landscapes. A place where nature and adventure converge, offering an escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Among her many gems, the West Virginia Trail Fest (WV Trail Fest) within Pocahontas County stands out as a premier family destination attraction for athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs, and those seeking a serene outdoor adventure.
West Virginia’s rugged terrain, with its dense forests, winding rivers, and mist-covered mountains, creates a picturesque setting that is both awe-inspiring and humbling. You will adventure through one of the most pristine natural areas in the eastern United States, such as Monongahela National Forest, and historic locations such as the Greenbrier River Trail, Green Bank Observatory, Cass Scenic Railroad, and Seneca State Park (WV oldest state forest). Endless opportunities for exploration for the entire family.

WV Trail Fest
As one of the premier events within Pocahontas County for outdoor enthusiasts, the WV Trail Fest is held annually on the second weekend in May within Pocahontas County, finishing at Snowshoe Resort. This festival brings together families, trail runners, and nature lovers for a weekend of true adventure, camaraderie, and celebration. Participants can take part in competitive and recreational trail races, including a kids 1 mile fun run, 5K, 30K, 60K, and 100K that explore some of the most scenic trails in the region. Routes have been designed to challenge novice and experience runners alike. The course includes sections of technical single-track trail, nicely groomed trails, carriage and fire roads, tough climbs and descents, and scenic overlooks as far as the eye can see. Stop for a minute on the 60K and 100k routes and climb a historic fire tower for an unprecedented 360-degree view of the entire area. The WV Trail Fest also includes live music, local food vendors and artisans, and family-friendly activities, making it a perfect gathering for both athletes and spectators. Whether tackling rugged terrain on foot or out for a hike, the WV Trail Fest highlights the spirit of outdoor adventure that defines West Virginia.
