Trail Mix – May 2018

The Steel Wheels have long been a friend to Trail Mix.

I can remember when I discovered the band, way back when I got my hands on Trent Wagler and Jay Lapp’s duo record, Adrienna Valentine. That was almost ten years ago. Since them, Trail Mix has been happy to highlight the band’s many releases, their first appearance at Merlefest, and the origins of their own Red Wing Roots Music Festival.

This month, we celebrate the release of two live EPs that The Steel Wheels dropped at the end of April. One was recorded at The Station Inn in Nashville, the other in Charlottesville’s own Jefferson Theater. The two collections of live cuts are proof positive that The Steel Wheels are one of Virginia’s premier acoustic bands. Featured this month is “Wild As We Came Here,” taken Volume 2: Live at The Jefferson Theater.

Trail Mix is also happy to bring back some more old friends this month. Returning to the mix are Holly Golightly, Sam Lewis, Mat Kearney, Luke Winslow-King, and Sarah Shook.

There is also great new music from The Travelin’ McCourys, Bishop Gunn, The National Reserve, Darlin Darlin, Stephen Karl & Handsome Animals, Tony Keats, Gene D. Plumber, The Promise is Hope, Matt Costa, Kerri Powers, and The Ballroom Thieves.

Lots of great stuff coming to the blog this month. Stay tuned for chats with Leftover Salmon, Brent Cobb, and The Dead Tongues, along with a preview of the 10th annual Rooster Walk Music & Arts Festival.

And do your ears a favor. Get out there and grab some of these records. Go catch these artists live when they come to a stage near you. It’s a mutually beneficial kind of thing – they will appreciate the support and the music will be good for your soul. Support the great artists who give their music to Trail Mix.
